The deal covers over 1,000 movie titles licensed from IROKO across a range of genres, including comedy, action, thriller, and drama – all of which have been produced in the past three years. This will then be offered to VUBIQUITY customers across Africa via subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) packages.
“We are delighted to be working with IROKO on this exciting deal in one of our key territories. VUBIQUITY are committed to acquiring specialist and unique local content for our international markets, and partnering with IROKO – one of the biggest Nollywood distributors in the world – has afforded us that opportunity,” said Marco Nadotti, senior vice president of content, VUBIQUITY International.
“Not only are Nollywood movies prevalent in the markets of Nigeria, they are well-loved across the continent, from Ghana to Kenya to South Africa. Currently, an informal distribution network presents a potential barrier to the industry’s growth, so we are hugely proud to be working with IROKO in delivering this content to our customers, and hope to strengthen this partnership over many years to come.”
Nikhil N Patel, general manager of IROKO Global, said: “IROKO was built on, and lives by the mantra of setting the content free. We hope that through this partnership, millions more fans will be able to access our original TV series and movies.”
The content deal follows hot on the heels of another local licensing deal for VUBIQUITY with Viva Africa.
