Global Media and Entertainment leader accelerates localization with Vubiquity and AWS

Vubiquity harnesses AWS cloud services to reduce ‘time to title readiness’ and streamline global content distribution

Overview

A leading global Media and Entertainment (M&E) company faced challenges with asset readiness that were slowing the growth of its on-demand streaming service. To address this, the company partnered with Vubiquity – an Amdocs company, an expert in end-to-end media supply chain, to modernize its localization workflows using AWS cloud services.

Key outcomes include:

  • 20% faster time to title readiness for global distribution
  • Localization turnaround times reduced from days to hours
  • Optimized cloud costs, security, and operational resilience

Challenge

Manual workflows and visibility gaps hinder localization efficiency

The company needed to improve the speed, cost-efficiency, and scalability of its localization processes to support global streaming distribution. Manual steps such as subtitle generation and integration created bottlenecks, while inconsistent formatting and conformance issues across content libraries led to delays and errors. A lack of visibility into asset readiness further complicated release planning.

Although AWS was identified as a potential solution, the customer lacked the in-house expertise to apply cloud capabilities effectively to localization workflows. Vubiquity was brought in to design and implement a cloud-native solution aligned with AWS best practices and tailored to the company’s specific needs.

Solution

Media supply chain enhanced with platform-based content localization

Vubiquity developed LocalVU, a dedicated localization platform built on AWS. The platform automates key processes to accelerate turnaround times and ensure consistent, high-quality outputs.

When subtitles are needed, LocalVU automatically delivers proxy files and transcriptions to suppliers. Once completed, subtitle files are reintegrated into the workflow. Automation also supports technical analysis, quality control, subtitle conversion, and audiovisual asset conformance.

To protect intellectual property, especially for unreleased content, Vubiquity implemented a robust security framework using AWS services such as Web Application Firewall (WAF), GuardDuty, Shield Advanced, and Secrets Manager. Public and private resources are isolated using VPCs, subnets, and security groups.

For cost optimization, Vubiquity modeled expected workloads using the AWS Pricing Calculator and tracks actual usage via a custom billing portal developed by Amdocs. This enables granular cost attribution through resource tagging.

The company also benefits from a dedicated Vubiquity point of contact for all mastering, localization, and servicing needs.

Outcomes

Cloud capabilities facilitate global expansion strategy

Prior to the AWS transition, localization inefficiencies were a barrier to global expansion. With Vubiquity’s cloud-native solution, the company now localizes over 50,000 assets annually. Subtitle creation and integration times have dropped from over three days to under 24 hours. Overall, time to title readiness has improved by 20%, enabling more reliable global release schedules and enhancing the company’s ability to execute synchronized international promotions.
